• Properties: It possesses strong astringent and antiseptic properties.³ This means it can constrict body tissues and is effective at killing or inhibiting the growth of microorganisms.

• Traditional Uses: Historically and currently, it has a wide range of applications:

  • Aftershave: Applied to the skin after shaving to soothe irritation and stop minor bleeding from cuts.

  • Water Purification: Used to purify water by causing impurities to clump together and settle at the bottom.

  • Oral Health: Gargling with a solution of alum water is a common home remedy for canker sores, sore throats, and bad breath.
